Some Sobering Statistics... On any given day 7.3 million children have a parent in prison or or under state or federal supervision. (Bureau of Justice Statistics 2003) 10 Million children have parents who have been imprisoned sometime in their lives. 75% of women in prison are mothers More than 1.7 million children under the age of 18 have an incarcerated father. The National Council on Crime and Delinquency estimates that conservatively 9 percent of women in U.S. prisons are pregnant Children that have one parent in prison are 7 times more likely to become incarcerated at some point in their lives (Center for Children of Incarcerated Parents)
